2004 Chevrolet Corvette Crankshaft Seal Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the rear crankshaft seal on 2004 Chevrolet Corvette?
A: Engine Flywheel removal is the first step when replacing the crankshaft rear oil seal. Use the hook to extract the crankshaft rear oil seal out from the rear cover. The inside diameter (ID) of the crankshaft surface should remain ungreased while strictly following the policy against reusing the crankshaft rear oil seal. Clean engine oil should lubricate the oil seal's outside diameter but keep oil and other lubricants away from its sealing surface. A clean engine oil lubrication process must be performed on the rear cover oil seal bore but it should never come in contact with the crankshaft surface. Use the j41479 cone with bolts to fit against the crankshaft rear side while securely tightening the bolts while avoiding excessive force. Drill the rear oil seal onto the tapered cone after which push the seal into the rear cover bore. Use the j41479 threaded rod to push into the tapered cone until the tool reaches the oil seal before putting the oil seal into proper position on the tool. Use the tool handle's clockwise rotation to push the seal into the rear cover and make it rest at the bottom of the cover bore. Finish by uninstalling the j41479 then mount the engine Flywheel.
