  • Q: How to replace the Center Console on 2004 Cadillac XLR?
    A: In order to change the console, start by disconnecting the battery ground cable and the shifter knob. Open the console door and remove the hinge cover from the console bin by pulling at the rear so as to release the retainer. Subsequently, pull out the console Cup Holder and ashtray, then the console trim plate. Remove the nuts from the console and the bolts that fasten the front of the console to the i/p carrier. Lift the rear portion of console upwards a bit and pull it backward to free the front portion from under i/p carrier. Remove the electrical connector from the electrical accessory plug and take out the console electrical accessory plug retainer screws from the housing to take out the housing from console. Using a flat-bladed tool, disengage the lamp from the retainer and routing it through the hole in the console bin before removing the console from the vehicle. In installment, plug in the console back into the vehicle, plug in the lamp into the bin by passing through the hole and insert in the retention. Connect the electrical accessory plug housing with console ensuring the cover plug is attached and terminate the electrical accessory plug retainer on the housing. Connect the electrical connector to the plug ensuring that the front of the console is placed under the rear of the i/p carrier. Fasten the console with the retaining nuts and bolt to the i/p carrier while tightening the nuts to 10 n.m (89 lb in). Reinstall the console trim plate, cup holder, and ashtray, and secure the hinge cover to the console bin by pressuring it down to lock the retaining clips. Close console door and make sure it fits and latches, then reinstall shifter knob, and then reconnect ground cable on battery.
