- Q: How to replace the wiper arm on 2004 Cadillac SRX?A: Start by putting the wipers into the park position before you open your hood assembly for replacement work. Align the Wiper Blade on the driver side with the orange line which is positioned at the center lower windshield and the passenger side Wiper Blade must be lined up with the orange dot situated at the lower right windshield area. The first step involves removing coverings (2,5) from Wiper Arm nuts (3,6) followed by removing those Wiper Arm drive spindle nuts (3,6). Make forceful contact only during the last steps of lifting or lowering the hood/liftgate assist rod but maintain contact points away from the middle to protect it from damage. When removing the driver side Wiper Arm disconnect its upper hood assist rods from assist rod ball studs before tilting the hood backward toward the air inlet grille panel for support. The Wiper Arm puller (J39822) should be used to extract Wiper Arm units that refuse to come off from the Wiper Arm drive spindle. The Wiper Arm drive spindle requires cleaning with a fine wire brush before removing the Wiper Blade from its position on the Wiper Arm. Position the Wiper Blade tip on the passenger side Wiper Arm to match the orange dot on the windshield's lower outer edge while positioning the driver side Wiper Arm with its tip pointed to the orange line on the windshield's lower center. Place the Wiper Arm onto the Wiper Arm drive spindle before securely tightening nut (3,6) to 35 n.m (26 lb ft) while maintaining the arm's position. Secure the upper hood assist rods to the assist rod ball studs on the hood assembly while installing the Wiper Arm nut covers and conducting wiper operation which ensures the driver side wiper stays within the intended wipe area.
