- Q: How to replace the alternator on 2004 Cadillac SRX?A: When replacing the generator you should start by disconnecting the battery negative cable and then removing the Drive Belt from the generator. The vehicle needs to be raised and supported while technicians disconnect the electrical connector from the generator. Move the protective boot back from the generator output bat terminal before removing the generator output bat terminal nut to disconnect the battery positive lead. Lower the vehicle employing the generator lower bolts and then remove the upper generator bolt before extracting the generator from the engine. Release the generator onto its engine-mounting location then securely install the generator upper mounting bolt. After raising and securing the vehicle perform generator lower bolt installation while keeping torque at 50 n.m (37 lb ft). Install and tighten the generator bat terminal nut to 10 n.m (89 lb in) while also installing the bat terminal boot. Connect both ends of the electrical connector to the generator then lower the vehicle before installing the generator's Drive Belt and reconnecting the negative Battery Cable.
