2003 Chevrolet SSR Engine Control Module Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the Engine Control Module and ensure proper programming on 2003 Chevrolet SSR?
A: A scan tool helps retrieve engine oil life percentage for module programming purposes because not recording the data sets default engine oil life to 100% that triggers a required oil change after 5000 km (3,000 mi) from the previous change. Start by disconnecting the negative terminal then lifting the hood while setting the pcm water boot to the side. Uninstall the pcm by detaching it from its bracket and disconnecting its electrical wires then extracting the pcm from its place. An installer needs to connect all electric wires to the pcm before tightening the bolts with 10 n.m (89 lb in torque) then place the pcm onto its bracket followed by boot material replacement. After finishing the installation position the negative cable back onto the battery then close the hood. A pcm replacement requires programming through the service programming system when this procedure is performed.
