2003 Chevrolet Malibu Seat Motor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Replace the Front and Rear Vertical Seat Motor Actuators on 2003 Chevrolet Malibu?
A: You must start by elevating the front seat to its highest position before you take off the front seat adjusters as an assembly with the seat cushion frame as well as the power Seat Switch. The seat adjuster requires repositioning to reveal the vertical actuator bolts that exist between the lower seat track and the upper channel of the adjuster assembly. Install a protective barrier before squeezing the oblong connector for the vertical drive cables to disconnect the drive cable from the actuator (1,4). After placing the adjuster assembly onto the protective barrier the power supply should be connected. Use the power Seat Switch to operate the seat adjuster until it reaches maximum forward and maximum rear positions for removing bolts from the rear and front actuators. The actuator requires removal when it is situated near the motor where you also need to remove the motor support bracket assembly. The actuator jack nuts located on top of the upper channel should be detached before removing the vertical actuators (1,4) from that channel. Start by putting vertical actuators (1,4) into the upper channel and finally install the vertical actuator jack nut but tighten it to 11 n.m (97 lb in). Install the motor support bracket when it gets removed. The installation of vertical actuator bolts (5,9) starts by selecting the full forward position using the power Seat Switch followed by tightening the rear actuator bolts to 4 n.m (35 lb in) then moving to the full rearward position to install the front actuator bolts with a torque of 4 n.m (35 lb in). Detach the electrical connector from the power seat wire harness before you take out the adjuster assembly from the vehicle. Shift the drive cable into the actuator (1,4) before pressing the drive cable connector until it produces an audible click sound. Reinstall the front seat adjusters as an assembly to the seat cushion frame by first confirming adjuster phase before placing the components back into the vehicle interior.
