2003 Cadillac Escalade Muffler Parts and Q&A
Q: How to replace the muffler on 2003 Cadillac Escalade?
A: Begin the Muffler replacement by unlocking the spare tire wheel storage cylinder followed by taking out the spare tire and removing both rear tires and wheels. Connectors for the electronic suspension rear position sensor and rear shock need removal from both right and left side chassis harnesses after rpo code z55 identification. The link rod on the rear suspension sensor must not be pried away from the ball stud of the position sensor. From each sensor leverage the left and right sensor link rods by holding the sensor lever with your hand and twisting the rod away from the ball stud for removal. Position adjustable jack stands under the rear axle and detach the rear axle vent hose if installation requires it. Start by taking off the rear brake crossover pipe swivel clip securing the vent hose. Next disconnect the lower nuts and bolts that secure the rear shock absorbers. Access the Muffler by using adjustable jack stands to lower the rear axle slightly and remove exhaust Muffler nuts until the Muffler can be taken out of the insulators. To install the Muffler place exhaust insulator lubrication on the elements followed by reattachment of the Muffler to the insulators through use of exhaust Muffler nuts tightened to 40 nm (30 ft. Lbs.). Lift the rear axle through the adjustable jack stands before reinstalling its lower Shock Absorber bolts and nuts with a torque setting of 95 nm (70 ft. Lbs.). Reinstall the vent hose swivel clip to the rear brake crossover pipe and the rear axle vent hose following removal of the adjustable jack stands. Use j38185 hose clamp pliers (J38185) to secure sensor link rods to ball studs on sensor levers when rpo z55 is present. After reconnecting the left and right chassis harness electrical connectors that serve the electronic suspension rear position sensor and rear shock, reattach rear wheels to their respective tires before putting the spare tire back on the hoist and securing the spare tire wheel stowage lock cylinder.
