2003 Buick Century Battery Cable Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the negative battery cable on 2003 Buick Century?
A: Start by disconnecting both the battery negative cable followed by the positive battery cable from the battery. The following steps should be taken to remove the components: frame ground wire bolt, remote positive stud cover, and positive battery cable junction block lead nut. The positive battery cable should be removed from the bussed electrical center (BEC) followed by removing the BEC from its position on the strut tower. Take out the positive battery cable harness from BEC after unclipping it and then lift the vehicle. The first step includes removing the front lower air deflector followed by removing the battery cable from the starter motor BAT terminal and the transaxle stud nut. Slice the ground cable away from the transaxle stud while removing battery cable harness retainers from their locations before extracting the vehicle from the vehicle. Remove the negative battery cable from inside the wiring harness conduit. Start by putting the battery cable negative terminal through the wiring harness conduit before installing the battery cable harness to the vehicle while fastening the retainers. Connect the ground cable to the transaxle stud followed by tightening its nut to 30 N.m (22 lb ft). Attach the positive battery cable to the starter motor BAT terminal before tightening the starter solenoid BAT terminal nut to 9.5 N.m (84 lb in). After lowering the vehicle install the front lower air deflector and connect the positive battery cable harness to the BEC before fastening the BEC over the strut tower. Use the positive battery cable to connect with the BEC and tighten its junction block lead nut to 10 N.m (89 lb in). Fasten the ground wire back to the frame structure by using a 10 N.m (89 lb in) torque. Reinstall the remote positive stud cover. For the conclusion connect the positive battery cable to the battery before tightening it to 15 N.m (11 lb ft). Then reattach the negative battery cable.
