2002 Chevrolet Venture A/C Expansion Valve Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Expansion Valve in a system on 2002 Chevrolet Venture?
A: Recovery of refrigerant should start as the first step for replacing the A/C Expansion Valve (TXV). Leave the wiper arm linkage nuts from the left side to reposition the arm while granting access to the device. You should first move the heater hoses for better clearance before you disconnect the vacuum hose from the Brake Booster and position it somewhere else. Start by removing the Evaporator outlet tube to txv nut before disconnecting the Evaporator outlet and inlet tubes from the A/C Expansion Valve and eventually removing the Evaporator outlet tube from the Evaporator tube line. Sealing washers should be discarded after their removal while you immediately secure the open tubes on the Evaporator inlet and outlet with tape or caps to stop contamination. Proceed with removing the txv to Evaporator bolts before extracting the txv from the Evaporator core while discarding the sealing washers a second time. Clean both the sealing surfaces of txv and Evaporator core by applying lint-free dry cloth before installation while flat washer type seals need no lubrication. Install new sealing washers onto the Evaporator core before putting in the txv at the Evaporator core. Secure the txv with txv to Evaporator bolts but tighten them only to 3.2 n.m (28 lb in). Before installation replace the tape and caps from Evaporator inlet and outlet tubes and clean their sealing surfaces together with the txv before placing new sealing washers on each tube when they reach proper seating. First install the Evaporator outlet tube to the Evaporator inlet tube and then connect the Evaporator outlet tube to the txv before tightening the Evaporator outlet tube nut to 16 n.m (12 lb ft). Reinstall the vacuum hose to its position on the Brake Booster followed by heating hose alignment then return the left wiper arm linkage while securing its attaching nuts using 5 n.m torque setting (44 lb in force). Evacuation and recharging of the a/c system needs to be performed while conducting a leak test on component fittings through the use of the halogen leak detector (J 39400-A).
