2002 Chevrolet Camaro Fuel Rail Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the fuel rail assembly on 2002 Chevrolet Camaro?
A: The technician must start by removing fuel system pressure before conducting any work on fuel system components and keeping the service area clean at all times. Spend time cleaning the Fuel Rail components then disconnect the fuel pipe assemblies from the rail tubing before proceeding with the Fuel Injector wire removal followed by separating the vacuum pipe under the Fuel Pressure Regulator and the electrical link of the MAP Sensor along with the vacuum switch line from the bundle. The next step involves removing the vacuum source from the Intake Manifold and the Fuel Injector electrical connectors and then extracting the Fuel Injector harness fasteners before unfastening the Fuel Rail hold-down bolts. Periodically exert gentle force on both sides of the Fuel Rail until it exits the Intake Manifold while you release the front Fuel Injector retaining clips and front fuel injectors from each side. Replace all o-rings during installation and lightly apply clean oil to the Fuel Injector o-rings before installation. The black o-ring should be placed in the upper position and the brown o-ring in the lower position on the Fuel Injector. After placing the Fuel Rail assembly onto the Intake Manifold the front fuel injectors and their retaining clips should be installed prior to manually seating the fuel injectors. Install the vacuum source to the Intake Manifold followed by attaching the vacuum line to the vacuum switch and the vacuum line which goes from the vacuum source to the Fuel Pressure Regulator. Afterward, connect the Fuel Injector harness fasteners with electrical connectors and tighten the Fuel Rail hold-down bolts to 10 n.m (89 lb in). Route the fuel feed and return pipes into the Fuel Rail tubes and connect the MAP Sensor electrical connector and the Fuel Injector coil wires. To inspect for leaks the technician reattaches the negative Battery Cable after following the steps of turning the ignition on for 2 seconds and then off for 10 seconds followed by another 2-second ignition turn-on.
