2002 Buick Century Alternator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the Delphi CS130D alternator on 2002 Buick Century?
A: Begin by disconnecting the delphi cs130d generator through negative Battery Cable removal and completing the following steps to remove the engine compartment cross vehicle brace and Drive Belt from the generator. Positioned aside the coolant recovery reservoir for access, the installer should remove generator bolts (1,2,3) and disconnect the electrical connector before moving on to separate the protective boot from the generator output bat terminal and unscrew the generator output bat terminal nut allowing the removal of the positive lead and generator itself. During generator installation position it near the engine then mount the positive lead followed by the generator output bat terminal nut until torque reaches 20 n.m (15 lb ft). Press the protective boot over the generator output bat terminal before you install the electrical connector and run generator bolts through holes in the generator. Finish the installation by starting the bolts by hand before any tightening. Finger start the generator at each step before final tightening. Begin with generator pivot bolt and incrementally advance to 50 n.m (37 lb ft) torque before applying 50 n.m (37 lb ft) torque to generator bolt followed by generator bolt. Reinstallation must include the coolant recovery reservoir and Drive Belt together with the engine compartment cross brace but the last step involves reconnecting the battery negative cable.
