- Q: How to replace the positive battery cable on 2001 GMC Jimmy?A: The battery positive cable replacement process requires users to disconnect the negative Battery Cable followed by the positive cable from the battery. Start by disconnecting the bolt holding the positive cable to the underhood fuse block while you also disconnect the nut that attaches it to the generator. First raise and support the vehicle before removing the nut which holds the positive Battery Cable to the Starter and next remove the positive Battery Cable bolt from the engine. After taking off the battery positive cable you should assemble the new positive Battery Cable to the specified vehicle locations. Screw and tighten the engine mount of the positive Battery Cable with a torque of 6 n.m (80 lb in). Tighten the nut engaging the positive Battery Cable with the Starter unit to 9 n.m (80 lb in). Lower the vehicle while installing the nut retaining the positive cable to the generator until tightness reaches 17 n.m (13 lb ft). Screw the underhood fuse block retaining nut for the positive Battery Cable while tightening it to 10 n.m (89 lb in). Use the positive Battery Cable to secure the battery while tightening the positive terminal bolt to 14 n.m (11 lb ft) then apply the negative cable to the battery.
