2001 GMC Jimmy A/C Accumulator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Accumulator in a system on 2001 GMC Jimmy?
A: Recycling the refrigerant from the a/c system must always precede an accumulator replacement. Start by removing the a/c pressure switch followed by unbolting the accumulator-evaporator nuts before disconnection of compressor hose assembly from the accumulator. First remove the accumulator clamp bolt and o-ring seals before successfully extracting the accumulator. After installation position the accumulator within the clamp before using the clamp bolt to fasten it while torquing it to 10 n.m (88 lb in). Connect the a/c low pressure switch while replacing all its o-ring seals with new ones. Assemble the compressor hose to the accumulator before fastening the compressor suction hose with a torque of 48 n.m (35 lb in). Finally tighten the accumulator to evaporator retaining nut at 28 n.m (21 lb ft). When complete connect the electrical connector to the a/c pressure switch followed by evacuation and recharging of the a/c system through testing all fittings with a halogen leak detector j 39400-a.
