How to service and repair the turn signal switch on 2001 Chevrolet Prizm?

In order to service the turn signal switch, cut the negative battery cable and shut off the SIR System. Eliminate the bottom and top trim covers of the steering column. Check on damage and in case of damage, change the switch assembly. Re-attach the electrical connector, install the trim covers and re-attach the battery cable.
