2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Brake Line Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the rear brake line on 2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo?
A: Start the replacement process by putting the car on a lift and taking off the back tire and wheel components. Dust off the brake hoses and braking pipe fitting then put a rubber seal on the open pipe end to stop fluid loss and contamination. Secure the brake pipe end with a back up wrench then detach the brake hose from it. Block the disconnected pipe fitting securely with a cap rather than bending the brake pipe or bracket. Free the brake hose from its bracket by extracting the retainer clip. Afterwards remove it from the bracket. You should detach the brake hose from the caliper while removing the brake hose to caliper bolt. Dispose of the two stuck copper brake hose gaskets that may remain on either end. Install fresh copper brake hose gaskets on the brake hose and attach them with the brake hose bolt. Position the brake hose onto the caliper bolt then connect it to the brake caliper while torquing to 54 nm (40 ft. Lbs.). While the vehicle rests on suspension, put the brass brake hose into the bracket and check for kinks while sinking the hose fitting into its specific guide notch using the hose stripe. Place the hose retainer piece on the bracket fitment followed by taking off the rubber cover from the brake pipe end opening. Use a back up socket wrench to join the brake pipe fitting and brake hose but do not bend either part while tightening them to 15 nm (11 ft. Lbs.). Put back the rear tire and wheel parts while making sure the hose does not touch the suspension components; fix the contact if found. Lower the vehicle afterwards you finish bleeding the hydraulic brake system.
