2001 Chevrolet Corvette Harmonic Balancer Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the harmonic balancer on 2001 Chevrolet Corvette?
A: The first step to change the Harmonic Balancer involves disconnecting the negative Battery Cable and releasing the accessory Drive Belt tensioner before proceeding. Uninstall the engine Drive Belt followed by moving the electronic brake control module away from its bracket. You must start with removing the power steering gear followed by the Starter motor and then the Power Steering Cooler bolts from the front crossmember. First remove the Power Steering Cooler from its position on the front crossmember and position it again before releasing the air conditioning (A/C) belt tensioner to extract the a/c Drive Belt from the engine. Harmonic Balancer removal will complete the procedure. The installation process starts with the Harmonic Balancer followed by proper placement of the a/c Drive Belt to the engine. Reinstall the power steering gear with Power Steering Cooler to the front crossmember while checking that Power Steering Cooler bolts reach 11 nm torque (97 inch lbs). The installation of the Starter motor should be followed by lower vehicle placement and the accessory Drive Belt installation onto the engine. Connect the negative Battery Cable and mount the electronic brake control module on the bracket while tightening the negative Battery Cable bolt to 15 nm (11 ft. Lbs.). Finally, program the transmitters.
