To inspect for damage check the Oil Filter seal then replace it with the slide hammer adapter (J6125-1B) and universal seal remover (J23129) when necessary. After placing a new filter in the case you need to coat the new seal with petroleum jelly followed by reinstallation of the transaxle oil pan.
