- Q: How to Service and Repair a Power Steering Hose for Inlet on 2000 Chevrolet Prizm?A: Start power steering line/hose service and repair by performing fluid drainage using a siphon at the reservoir and following with Power Steering Pressure Switch electrical connector disconnection while placing a drain pan below the vehicle to gather escaping fluid. The Power Steering Pressure Switch should be detached from the power steering inlet hose before the inlet fitting and pipe must also be removed from the Power Steering Pump. Unfasten the three power steering gear outlet pipe heat shield securing bolts before removing the rh clip bolt from the intermediate outlet pipe clip along with the lh clip bolt from the same clip. Unscrew the clamp at the power steering gear outlet pipe to detach the intermediate outlet pipe from the power steering outlet pipe. The inlet pipe/hose of the power steering gear should be separated from the steering gear before detaching the intermediate outlet pipe with both inlet pipe/hose clips from the vehicle. Attach power steering gear inlet pipe/hose with clips and intermediate outlet pipe to the vehicle by using the lh clip bolt and rh clip bolt without applying torque. The power steering gear inlet pipe/hose installation requires a pipe tightening torque of 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) on its connection to the steering gear. The power steering outlet hose and intermediate outlet pipe should be connected while securing them with a hose clamp. Reinstall the power steering gear outlet pipe heat shield by tightening its 3 bolts to 5.4 nm (48 inch lbs.). Secure the power steering inlet pipe/hose that runs from the Power Steering Pump using 54 nm (40 ft. Lbs.) torque. Tighten the Power Steering Pressure Switch until it reaches 21 nm (15 ft. Lbs.) when reattaching it to the inlet pipe/hose while connecting the electrical connector. The 2 pipe clip bolts receive tightening force of 5.4 nm (48 inch lbs.) before filling the power steering fluid reservoir and performing power steering system bleeding.
