2000 Chevrolet Camaro Automatic Transmission Filter Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Automatic Transmission Filter on 2000 Chevrolet Camaro?
A: The servicing process for automatic transmission fluid filters requires a vehicle to be properly raised for support. Install a drain pan under the transmission Oil Pan then remove bolts from the front and side of the pan before gradually loosening the bolts at the back by four turns. Using a rubber mallet strike the Oil Pan while draining fluid before removing remaining bolts to extract the Oil Pan together with its gasket. Disembark the filter and seal from the transmission case while observing that the seal tends to adhere tightly within the transmission case. The fluid proportion and filter examination should reveal clutch material or show bronze slivers from worn bushings or steel particles in the fluid. Apply solvent to both transmission surfaces and Oil Pan Gasket area before allowing them to dry under clean air while removing all traces of old gasket material. Coat the new filter neck seal with j 36850 transjel lubricant (J 36850) and place it in the transmission case through the use of a suitable size socket until it taps correctly into position. First install the new filter and then add the Oil Pan together with a fresh gasket while alternating the tightening of Oil Pan bolts to reach 11 nm (97 inch lbs.). The fill process requires dexron iii transmission fluid and correct level measurements of cold fluid while checking for Oil Pan Gasket leakages.
