2000 Buick Century Oil Pan Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the oil pan on 2000 Buick Century?
A: You need to start by disconnecting the battery ground cable for the replacement procedure. First suspend the engine and A/C Compressor by removing engine mount struts from both units before removing the A/C Compressor mounting bolts. Set both components apart. Use the universal engine support fixture (J28467-B) together with the engine support adapters (J28467-90A) and engine support adapter leg set (J36462-A) to safely raise the vehicle into position. First remove the three-way catalytic converter pipe from the right (rear) exhaust manifold before draining engine oil. Disconnect the wiring harness for the oil sensor while removing the Starter motor as well as the transaxle brace which bolts onto the Oil Pan and lower nuts from the transaxle mount and engine mount. First lift the engine with the engine support fixture to reach the Oil Pan before taking off the engine mount bracket containing its engine mount from the Oil Pan. First use the torque wrench adapter (J39505) to remove the right (rear) Oil Pan side bolts which should be followed by left (front) Oil Pan side bolts and Oil Pan retaining bolts before removing the Oil Pan and gasket. After cleaning both the Oil Pan and engine block gasket area apply a small amount of sealer gm p/n 1234579 or equivalent product on each side of the rear main bearing cap. Use the torque wrench adapter (J39505) for tightening right (rear) Oil Pan side bolts to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.) and left (front) Oil Pan side bolts to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.) while the Oil Pan retaining bolts get tightened to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). First attach the engine mount bracket and engine mount assembly to the Oil Pan before using an engine support fixture to lower the engine toward the Oil Pan. Secure the engine mount lower nuts with the transaxle mount lower nuts and transaxle brace. Reinstall the Starter motor followed by reattaching the oil level sensor wiring harness before you connect the three-way catalytic converter pipe to the rear Exhaust Manifold. Lower the vehicle after removing the universal engine support fixture (J28467-B), engine support adapters (J28467-90A), and engine support adapter leg set (J36462-A). Reinstall the A/C Compressor and engine mount struts and fill the engine with oil before connecting the battery ground (negative).
